Why Pilates?

Developed in the early 20th century by fitness innovator and pioneer Joseph Pilates, the Pilates method concentrates on the core abdominal and spinal muscles, focusing on precision of movement to deliver a strength training workout of unparalleled efficiency and effectiveness.

It is also uniquely adaptable to all ages, fitness levels and body types, from those who haven't exercised in years to elite athletes and everyone in between. Additionally, most movements, whether on the mat or an apparatus, are done lying prone (on your back), which makes Pilates very low impact with very little risk of injury.  This also makes Pilates accessible to participants with joint problems and other injuries.

Regardless of your starting point, Pilates practice will:

  • build strength
  • increase flexibility
  • improve coordination and balance
  • improve posture
  • relieve and eliminate back pain
  • reduce injury risk in daily life and other fitness activities
